THE POP-EXPOSE ‘Who Is Stoked for Star Wars: The Last Jedi’?
Story by Mitchell Smith
Who’s stoked for Star Wars: The Last Jedi?
The couple of trailers I’ve seen of The Last Jedi have looked pretty good and I’m excited for this movie to hit theaters in a few months. Friday the 1st was Force Friday and a number of action figures were release at many retail stores such as Target, Best Buy, and the Disney store. If any of you were able to get out you probably saw figures for characters such as Luke, Rey, and Kylo Ren in their new outfits. Some I also caught were Snoke, General Hux, and Rose Tico. There was a few new characters, a few upgrades, and a few spoilers of who is coming back from episode 7.
I wasn’t overly excited about the slight change of some of the main character’s outfits, but then again the original trilogy characters didn’t really change much either from A New Hope to the Empire Strikes Back. Some of the things I’ve seen such as a bigger Star Destroyers or an even bigger Death Star have not been a grab for me. Bigger is not always better. One of the great draws for me (and I’m sure many other Star Wars fans) about the franchise is how the original trilogy incorporated a reality of simple things such as Luke being short and the Millennium Falcon always breaking down. People could relate to those struggles of overcoming lives challenges of being too short or having and old car and not knowing if you were going to get to your destination. It was simple but it reached out and grabbed people. Kind of like Al Bundy’s old Dodge, Han was always working on the Falcon, but that was his baby, and he didn’t want to part with the history of it.
Any who, now that we have the new cast well established, I’m hoping to see more Luke, more Leia (god rest her soul), and more of those pesky old robots that the original trilogy was centered around R2 and 3P0. I do like the new cast and there are so many millions of Star Wars fans to try and please, I’m just hoping for a nice mesh of new and old characters, and hoping this one can one up the other 1/3 of this new trilogy. I’m just some crazy Star Wars fan who fell in love with the original movie and hope to see this next installment knock it out of the park. But then again my 10 year old on the other hand. He has grown up with a steady diet of Clone Wars and Rebels, and probably saw the prequels before the original trilogy, so I’m sure he would love to see Jar Jar, Sabine, and Han Solo all return to episode 8.
Either way for the next few months I’m sure the speculation and theories of who’s who and how they got to this point will be plentiful. I don’t think they can drop a bomb shell such as Vader saying “Luke I am your father”, there are to many theories out there. It’s going to be hard to surprise everyone or come up with some crazy thing of someone being related to someone that hasn’t already been talked about, OR can they? I can’t wait to find out.
